Facebook marketing has changed. Using your business page is no longer enough to get seen; it’s slow and can be downright expensive. It's a pay-to-play game.
Don’t worry though, there is a much better answer to this problem, a more organic way to grow your visibility: Facebook groups.
Joining communities is the new way to build your following and your business. Here, I’m sharing my top tips about how to make the most of them, but firstly let's look at why you should join in the first place.
Why You Should Join
Making connections is key to a successful business. Your visibility increases as people learn who you are and you develop a support and referral network. After all, you are much more likely to refer someone that you know and trust, right?
This goes one step further than networking and making connections. Making some proper, deep friendships within groups is such an amazing experience; you’ve got people around you who really understand your situation as an entrepreneur and to whom you can always go for support.
Get seen by your target audience
If you are targeting other business owners, your audience may be there in many groups, particularly those which focus on business support. This definitely doesn’t mean you spam the group, but the more you are seen over time, the more recognisable you are to that audience.
Learning & support
Not only do most groups provide educational content, but you have somewhere to post when you have a question or problem, whether it’s about business or mindset! There will be someone who has had your problem at some time and can give you the benefit of their experience and wisdom.
A lot of groups are completely free to join! That’s access to free networking, free support and a free knowledge bank. Now that’s value!
How to Make the Most of Them
Be of use to others, share your knowledge and reply if you can help someone. This is a community just as in real life, so provide value. Give more than you receive, and go in with a giving mindset. Ask yourself not 'what can I get', but 'what can I give'? It will pay back tenfold.
Establish yourself as an expert
If you share your knowledge without expecting anything in return, and you keep popping up consistently, answering people’s questions or leaving a free tip, you become recognisable and known as the go-to person for your niche. Your consistency and knowledge makes you trustworthy, and therefore people are more likely to go to you when they need your type of services.
Even if we are not talking about content related to your business, just get involved and have fun. Once again, it raises your visibility and we also get to see your personality. Plus, people are more likely to come to you if they feel they know you that way!
Don’t try to be everywhere
With all the groups out there it can be tempting to try and be integral to them all. Don’t! Find 2-3 groups you love and focus on being an active, valuable member within those. Note: That’s not to say you can’t join other groups if you need support on specific topics.
Stick to the rules
Every group has different rules, but the main one you need to remember is no spamming. Going into a group and just posting links to your services is a sure-fire way of getting kicked out quickly. There are usually promo threads for you to post a link to your work, so make sure you read the group’s description for the rules.
